dhtmlsite.gifOne of the things that a Web-Developer can’t have too much of, are sites with code. CSS code, AJAX code, Javascript code…… the list goes on. Perusing the Internet has given me a ton of resources, but I would like some kind of one-stop for a multi-plicity of code examples and work arounds. One of the most useful resources I have found are the folks over at dhtml site. My favorite area on this site is the CSS stuff. Really great! The image galleries are really sweet too, but having a nice repository of CSS information is really quite helpful.

Beginning Web ProgrammingIf you are just getting started in your career as a web developer, or would just like to access the skills required to build your own web site, this is an awesome place to start. Just to be clear, there are TONS, absolutely tons of information out there on getting started with html coding and the like, but this book literally has everything you really need to know to get started. I personally am a fan of O’Reilly, however, their books tend to start off very good for learners, but then by chapter 3 you find yourself saying, ‘What the hell are they talking about?!’. Not so with the Wrox books. They are quite possibly the best ‘learning’ books I have found. This book also includes an awesome introduction to CSS. The layout of the book is great, the learning progression of the book is great, and they don’t make you bite off more than you can chew at once. If you are currently attending college and are taking a introductory class in html or web-site building, your instructor should really be using this text, along with the next one.

Beginning CSSAnother great resource I use quite often is this one. This is probably the BEST intro book ever written on the topic of CSS. I use it in all the places where I need to teach the basics of CSS. Granted, as said before, there are tons of web-sites out there that can instruct you in fundamentals, but I find that having a hard-copy book around sure helps me when I am searching for solutions. There are several other books that Wrox has as introductory-style web development books that I would really like to review, however, I just simply havn’t had time. These two titles are the best introductory resources though.

wrox beginning ajaxHere is one I would really like to evaluate. Ajax can be a difficult thing to learn, let alone master, built on javascript, it utilizes the basic XmlHttpRequest object. Don’t know what that is? That’s okay, but it is something you will get very comfortable with once you start coding with Ajax. Ajax definition-ally speaking is Asynchronous Javascript And XML, but don’t sweat it, you can actually get started using Ajax from scratch.
