FireFox

Firefox has been my companion for some years now. I love hacking the little guy as much as humanly possible. So many add-ons, so little time. Some things are very productive, however other things are just a waste of time. They are generally fun wastes of time, but wastes of time nevertheless. Occasionally I put in a plugin/add-on that really makes Firefox act weird, or I hack the Chrome of the browser that makes it behave in strange and unusual ways. Recently my Firefox has been acting very, very strange. I was hacking my default Firefox on my new XP laptop, when all of a sudden my Firefox browser window started shaking violently! Then the window would inadvertently resize itself to fit exactly half the screen size.So I started going through the steps of taking off plugins one at a time till I figured out which one was causing a problem. As it turns out, it wasn’t a problem at all. It was actually a feature. I had installed an interesting little fun plugin called ‘eQuake’ which allows you to know when an earthquake happens, where it happened and what magnitude. The default settings however is that Firefox will shake proportional to the size of the earthquake. It’s actually quite interesting how many earthquakes really happen on a daily basis. Some are very small but if there is an organization in the world monitoring earthquakes you can bet that eQuake will let you know as soon as it happens.
